Wow! My brain is having a hard time grasping the fact that we only have 6 weeks left at NTBI! I can’t believe it’s been 2 years already! I don’t think I’ve ever felt so many different emotions at one time! I’m so sad to be leaving this place and all of our new friends! The friends that we have made here are amazing people! But, at the same time I’m super excited to be moving back home! I’m not sure which emotion is stronger at this point! On top of being super sad and super excited all at the same time. There’s also stress, worry, fear, joy, gladness, etc! For our senior semester we have taken Daniel/Revelation, Intro to Tribal Missions, 1,2 Thessalonians, Philippians/Philemon, Eschatology, Pastoral Epistles, 1-3 John, Colossians, and Christian Life Class. :) we have learned so much this semester and I feel like I have grown so much in my walk with the Lord! My prayer is that this growth does not stop when we leave here!
Our last day of class is May 15th and we graduate on the 19th! Josiah’s parents will be coming up here for our graduation and staying the week after so we can pack most of our stuff! Me (Chelsey) and Liam will be driving home (12-14 hours) with them the week after grad and Josiah will be staying here in Waukesha to work for a few weeks to save up for moving expenses and I will be trying to find us a place to live back in Chattanooga! We are definitely not looking forward to being apart for a month or so! It may work out that Josiah might not have to stay here as long as we were originally thinking if he has a place to work in Chattanooga already! He may have a job lined up, but we are still looking into other places!!
So… What’s Next?
Well, Our goal right now is to live in Chattanooga for approximately 2 years and ground ourselves in our church. I (Chelsey) will be trying to finish my bachelor’s degree in Education. After that 2 years or so we plan on going to the New Tribes Missionary Training Center in Missouri. This is a year to 2 year training program to better prepare us for Missions work! :)
We are still in need of living room furniture, washer and dryer, book shelves, dressers, bedroom furniture… Etc. so if anyone hears of any of these things for sale or wants to give them away please let us know! :)
On another note… Since our last post… We have had our first trip to the ER In an ambulance when Liam fell of our bed and fracture his skull (He now has a permanent dent in his head), Liam has gotten whopping cough and is now better, he has cut 7 teeth, and HE IS STARTING TO WALK! I can’t believe he is 14 months old already! He is such a social little boy and he never ceases to amaze me! He is so full of laughter and joy and his developing personality is so exciting! He learns new things every day and he brings so much joy to my life! He loves to tell you what a lion says, or a bumble bee, or a cow! He loves to blow kisses and say “uh oh”… and he’s obsessed with peanut butter sandwiches and bubbles!! …we are so blessed to have him in our lives!!
Liam in the hospital after falling off our bed!
Skipping Class with Liam while he had Whooping Cough! Thankful for such beautiful weather while we were not allowed to go around other people!!
1. Focus!!! Please pray that we would be able to focus on God’s Word for these next few weeks as we are also trying to prepare to move home!
2. Wisdom!!! Please pray that God would give us wisdom and discernment on where we should live, what job Josiah should take, when Josiah should come home, etc.
3. We are also still in need of a different car! Our car is not ideal for a family and we might end up needing 2 cars in Chattanooga with Josiah working.
4. Please pray that we would have the money we need to move back and get the things we need when we get there! :)
Thank you so much for your prayers as we continue to do what it is that we believe God would have us to do! We thank you so much for praying for us as we studied God’s Word over the past 2 years!!
Wow!!! So much has happened since our last update!! I’ll start with the summer ;) At the end of last semester we were asked to be on the student leadership team this year as campus ministry leader. Every student has a “Campus Ministry” to keep our school clean… Kinda like work detail. Leadership training was the highlight of our summer!! It was 2 weeks of training about what being a “leader” means. Basically, to lead means to serve!! Just as Christ led by serving, we are to follow in His footsteps and do the same. We spent one week in the classroom and getting to know the rest of the student leaders and staff. Next, we went camping 3 nights/4 days with all of the student leaders and staff from school!! It was so much fun getting to know all of the student leaders and staff!!
In August we started our Junior semester here at NTBI!! wow!! Time has gone by SOO fast!! Josiah’s sister, Bethany, also started her freshman semester here and it is so much fun to have her here with us!! I must say that our classes this semester have been SO AMAZING!! We started the semester off with 2 Corinthians, Romans, Missions in Church History, James/Jude, and Angelology. Right now we are in 1,2 Peter, Soteriology (the study of Salvation), and still in Romans!! Romans has been absolutely life changing so far!! This class is 9 weeks long of just digging in to Romans!! We are learning about Positional Truth and how as believers we are new creations in Christ no longer bound to sin!! We are so excited about being able to really dig into the New Testament.
On another note… LIAM!!! He is growing SO fast!! I always heard babies grow up fast… But this is crazy… It seems like he is gonna be a teenager tomorrow!! He is crawling all over the place, cutting his first tooth as we speak, babbling and babbling, and getting into everything!! He amazes me every day!! I love seeing him laugh, smile, and giggle and it is SOO much fun seeing him learning so much every day!!
And now it is Fall and the scenery is BEAUTIFUL!! Although I’m really sad it won’t last very long and all the beautiful leaves are gonna fall and it’s gonna start snowing and not stop til may :( haha
Some things you can pray about for us:
1. We only have a few more months here at NTBI and we will be moving back to Chattanooga sometime next summer. Please pray for wisdom for our living situation and the funds to be able to easily transition back to life at home.
2. We are really in need of a new car that will work for our family. The car we have right now is really difficult to transport a baby in and is not in very good condition for traveling.
3. Wisdom in parenting!!
4. Please pray that we will be able to really focus on what the Lord is teaching us this semester!! All the stuff we are studying is really deep!! It is hard for us to focus, first of all, because of Liam, and secondly, because of Josiah’s job because he goes to work after classes and by the time he gets home he is too worn out to focus on school work like he should. Pray that we would be able to really live out the truths that we are learning!!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR PRAYERS AS WE STUDY THE TRUTHS OF GOD’S WORD AND TRY TO LIVE THEM OUT!!
WOW! It’s hard to believe that summer is coming to an end so quick! We just wanted to give a little update about what’s going to happen next. First, we want to praise God for giving us a great summer. It has been incredible to watch our little boy grow up SO FAST! We can’t wait to see what he will be getting into next! As our summer comes to an end, we will be starting Leadership Training here at NTBI. Chelsey and I have been asked to be on the leadership team this next year of school. We are told that the leadership training is some of the “best stuff” we’ll get at school. So in order to get the most out of it I will be taking two weeks off work to be able to dive in so that we can serve and (hopefully) be a blessing to the rest of our student body. That takes place August 10th – 20th. Classes will be in full swing again on the 24th! We are SUPER excited to start our Junior semester and can’t wait to see what else God has in store for us.
A couple of prayer request to end our summer and start our school year:
1. Pray that we’ll stay faithful to the Word and be sensitive to the Holy Spirit throughout the school year and not get tied up in the “textbook” side of the Bible.
2. Even though I have been working 40hrs a week all summer with the exception of one week, we are still lacking some of our fall initial fees. It was AMAZING to see our Jehovah Jirah provide for us last year and we are SOOO looking for Him to do it again this year! God has been faithful and will continue to do so. Please pray that we will continue to trust God for the rest of our fees which come out to about $1200 by the beginning of August.
If God is leading you to help in this area, please feel free to contact us, or the School Directly @262-542-9411 Ext. 1310.
We covet your prayers and hope to keep everyone posted throughout next semester!
WOW! I received this email from our Prayer Partners at our home Church Brainerd Baptist in Tennessee. It is a reminder of the need that Christ told about in John 4:34-3834Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work. 35“Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and thencomes the harvest’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest. 36“Already he who reaps is receiving wages and is gathering fruit for life eternal; so that he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. 37“For in this case the saying is true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38“I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored and you have entered into their labor.”
“Dear Prayer Partners:
I wanted to share this praise report with you about how awesome God is to use our website for HIS glory.Someone from Accra, Ghana (West Africa) posted a request on our website asking for a Bible. He is a new believer. We responded that we would gladly send him a Bible. This is his response. Please pray that God will use His Word mightily in the life of this new believer – Joseph.
Please pray that God sends someone to disciple Joseph. “
“Hello fellow christian brethren , i do not have much to say, but all i know about my conversion was that through the preaching of an evangelist who also said much things about me in his preaching. before i realised it, i was crying for salvation from jesus christ. please this is all that i say about my new conversion. God bless u for deciding to send me the bible. please can u do that very fast because i am desperate about knowing much about this jesus christ whom the evangelist spoke much about in his preaching.”
Chelsey and I wanted to share this email with our blog as a reminder as to why we are at New Tribes. There are people waiting to hear more of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Christ has called believers to do that task, whether that is at home, across the street, on an airplane or across the sea, we all have the task set before us. We are still unsure of where God would have us serve Him, but this is a good reminder that people are needed!!
Well, first off we want to apologize for not posting a blog in so long!
It is so exciting to be able to give God praise for his provision in each of our post! In our last post, we asked prayer for provision for our semester initials. The day before school started, because of my job transition and Chelsey quitting her job right before Christmas break we only had $400 in the bank and we needed $1800 for our bill and books. we went to go put a small payment on our bill and the office told us that 2 anonymous donors paid our bill! one for $200 and the other for $2000!! that was above and beyond what we needed! WOW!! What shock we were in! Something we least expected, but God was not caught by surprise! What an awesome God we serve!
My job has been going well. I am finally kicking in all the hours I can take. It took a while to get going all the way, but none the less I finally got off the ground and things are going great!
Classes started back and we are learning so much! I think these are my favorite classes so far. We are learning about the Life of Christ, the study of God, the study of sin, the study of man and Prophets. God has really opened my eyes to who He really is, was and will be. Christ is becoming so much more real to me. I feel like I just can’t get enough study time in to learn more.
Finally….Liam Josiah King! woohoo! He has finally arrived! He was born on Feb 11th weighing in at 7lbs 9oz and 21 1/2 inches long. Chelsey’s water broke at 11:50pm Thursday night and we arrived at the hospital around 12am. Liam came into the world at 6:35am Friday! She had 6hours of labor and only 5 mins of pushing! He was definitely ready to come out. Praise God for a healthy delivery, healthy baby and healthy mommy!
Thanks for checking in and please keep praying for us.
“Prayer is an attitude of complete depence on God. From this incident we discover that even though Jesus Christ had authority in Himslef to heal the sick and cast out demons, He did not act independently of the Father. Prayer is an absolutely essential in His life and Ministry.” -J. Dwight Pentecost
WOW! What an exciting time we had last semester! At the end of our first semester we couldn’t believe we were done already! We have learned so much already, and we can’t wait to see what God is going to do in our Spring semester.
Over Christmas break we went home for about 2 weeks and enjoyed spending Christmas and New Years with family! It was such a fun time, and it was good to see friends and family again and show off Chelsey’s belly! :)
Our last couple of posts we’ve talked about Josiah’s new job with the drivers ed company. Well after a lot of training he finally went to take his road test at the DMV to become an instructor. When he got to the DMV he had to take a vision test…and that part didn’t go so well. The DMV said he needed to see a specialist and have them approve his vision for driving. So that was Friday afternoon and we went to Chattanooga on Saturday. The next week he went to see the eye doctor in Chattanooga, who approved his vision and also gave him a prescription for contacts. The Doctors visit alone was $85! The prescription is $130 for both eyes, because his left eye is so bad that they have to custom make the contacts, and the right eye contact is just to help his left eye adjust to the contacts. Well, Praise the Lord for his Job, because his boss said he would pay for the $85 visit and the first 6 months of contacts!! WOW!! WHAT AN ANSWER TO PRAYER!!! Now we’ll just have to make sure we can keep getting them after 6months.
Well Monday, Jan 17th starts our classes again. and we are super excited about this semester! We are taking classes like Theology, Life of Christ, Christology, Acts, Christ in Judaism, Hinduism, Mormonism, Roman Catholicism and LOTS MORE!! We’ve been told that this semester is extremely busy. So please pray that we’ll be able to keep up with everything going on along with Liam being born in approx. mid February. Chelsey will not be taking a full corse load and she will take off for 6 weeks when Liam is born. After 6 weeks he will go to the nursery from 9-11:30 everyday during class and Chelsey will get out of class at 11:30 instead of 12:30 like Josiah ;)
Last but not least, we want to give God praise for providing for us. Chelsey’s laptop stopped working right at the end of last semester and it made it hard to write papers on one computer. Praise God for her mom giving her one for Christmas. God also showed Himself to us by providing money to us from anonymous donors before we left for Chattanooga. On top of that we had two baby showers while we were in Chattanooga!! We were showered with countless gifts from our families and friends. Needless to say it was very hard to pack the car to come home!! We have almost everything we need for Liam!! We were able to get nursery furniture, stroller/car seat, pack n’ play, and much more. We are still working on getting a mattress for the crib but Liam will be able to sleep in the Pack N’ Play like a bassinet until then. Time and time again, God has proven to be faithful.
Our biggest prayer request at the moment is money for school!! We have $2000 in Spring initials and we lack most of that!! We know God will provide and we can’t wait to see how!!
One more prayer request is for Chelsey. She was sick most of the break and we finally went to the doctor the other night and found out that she has bronchitis. Please just pray that she will get well fast and be healthy before she goes into labor ;)
We hope you had a wonderful Christmas and New Years!! THANKS FOR READING!!!
Just a little update for us, as we’re finishing our last week of our first semester!! woohoo! We will be heading home on the 18th of December and will make it a 2 day trip since Chelsey is so preggers and we’ll be attending a wedding on the way through in Ohio.
We’ll be home (in Chattanooga) till the 3rd of January and get back here on the 4th. We are super excited to be home, although it will only be for a short time.
A couple of prayer request and praise to keep in mind if you happen to think about it.
- I GOT A NEW JOB!! PRAISE THE LORD! I’ve been waiting on an opening for a while and the Lord provided one. This job, drivers ed, will give me as many hours as I can take on and pays a lot more than my previous job, allowing Chelsey to take off work until we get situated after the baby is born in February. I also will not have to shovel snow in the cold!! woohoo!
- Pray for our financial situation. Even though I got the new job, it came later than expected so we’ll be behind on our Sophomore semester bill. When we get back in January we’ll need to have $2000 in initial fees for the beginning of the semester just for school, plus our regular bills. Right now, because the job came later, we have no money saved for our school bill. We know God has a plan, and he has provided for us so far, but sometimes, things seem too big to us. But, we know God has it all in store. So pray that we’ll have wisdom and patience! :)
- Just pray for wisdom and patience with our car situation also. Our 2 door car may or may not work with the new baby. The bucket seats in the back will make it especially difficult for the car seat. Also, the car seems to be having more small problems all the time. We have a great mechanic on campus who is charging minimal, but it all adds up. So we have decided, with the advice of others, that we do not want to go into debt for a new car. We really want to stretch our faith and see what God can do when we wait on Him and not rush into things. We know God will provided in His timing. However, again, it’s hard sometimes when things seem so big to us.
- Also, last week Chelsey’s laptop quit working. It’s having problems with the power, and it is extremely difficult to write papers and do assignments on one computer! So just pray again, for God guidance as we need another laptop.
- Finally, we’re heading home for the christmas, so please pray for traveling safety and for Chelsey to not to feel bad as we travel. I really pray for her to have good health!
In summary, Praise for the new Job. Pray for our Travels and financial situation with the school bills, car and laptop.
Thanks so much for staying in touch! It means a lot to us knowing that there are people praying for us!!
So some staff at our school decided to put on a FREE Christmas Rummage for the people of the town of Waukesha that can’t afford to buy Christmas presents for their children!!!! :) For about a month we have been taking donations of toys from all over town. We could have never imagined that we would have received as many toys as we did!!!! IT WAS INCREDIBLE!!! :) We had free gift wrapping, free family photos to be mailed to the families, free snacks, free Bibles, crafts and face painting!! It was SOOO much fun!! :)
Well it may be a little on the late side of things, but we had a great Thanksgiving. We had a great time hanging out and just enjoying some downtime for a few days. We went to a staff families house and they also had over one of my co-workers and his family, whom are former students here at NTBI. Everyone just brought a little something, and it turned out to be a great meal with great fellowship! However, I would say it was probably one of the hardest Holidays for both of us considering this was our first one with absolutely no family around. But thank goodness for Skype, Chelsey and I were able to Skype and phone most of our family so we could still be together! Later that night we came back to the main building where a bunch of singles and another married couple were hanging out watching a movie because they too were here without family! So we stayed to watch part of the movie then came to our apartment and played some games. :)
The bad news is I had to go and shovel snow for four hours at my old job. I told my boss that I would help them shovel snow till beginning or mid January to help them out, while I’m still working my new job. So it was a lot of work and it makes me hate the snow already. lol.
Anyways, only have 10 more school days left till we get to start our month long christmas break! So be in prayer that we’ll finish well and have safe travels home!
